RESONANCES 02/ Post-critical education in art museums: The reformulation of criticism through cultural mediation

By Cayo Honorato

RESONANCES / OPEN SESSIONS
Another Roadmap For Art Education

The debate will propose a reformulation of cultural mediation in terms of postcritical mediation (or a more than human “anthropology” of mediations), in response to the crises caused by digital platformization and cultural wars in the fields of visual arts and education. It is based on two exemplary cases (the Retomadas case and the Diva case) in which certain political-identitarian “chains of equivalence” assumed by criticism are disrupted. We specify how the term “postcritical” is used and explore its relevance in recognizing a current crisis of criticism, parallel to the advent of a postcritical condition. This approach is largely inspired by Bruno Latour’s symmetrical anthropology and actor-network theory, although it also incorporates other perspectives.
