Another roadmap for arts education
In recent years, a number of studies on education in museums and art centers have pointed to a common challenge: the lack of documentation, recording, or archiving of educational practices and the experience or response of the public. When records do exist, they are often fragmentary or have limited access. This is compounded by the diversity of formats (texts, audiovisuals, informal records) and the lack of institutionalized structures to organize them.
In the Educational Program of the National Museum of Brasilia, we face this challenge by integrating documentation as a central objective from its design but also by conceiving documentation as a type of mediation in its own terms. In this talk, we will discuss some of the results of the project, the material conditions that made it possible, and what it tells us about the problem of storytelling.
